RYLA is a Rotary International program that has been in Missouri for the past eleven years. Our district partners with Rotary Districts 6040 and 6080 to fund and administer the academy. The students are asked to apply through recommendations of Rotarians and local high school administrators/faculty. Students who attend our academy are incoming or outgoing high school sophomores. The camp location has varied through the years, but this year's camp will be held at the William Woods College in Fulton, June 24 thru June 27, 2012. The camp staff is comprised of qualified professional educators, motivational presenters, and outstanding Rotarians. Academy curriculum includes personality self-assessments, a team challenge ropes course, and statewide networking for students, based on service leadership theories of leadership.

The RYLA Leadership Academy can change the course of a young person's life. He or she walks away with renewed self-esteem, new friends and the confidence to return to his or her high schools to lead and serve his or her peers. These students also get an introduction to Rotary, as well as exposure to additional Rotary youth programs. Hundreds of students have participated in our RYLA youth program, and we look forward to serving many more.

|
Our district goal is to see each club within our district select a qualified applicant and sponsor him or her for our RYLA Academy. Costs are $400 per student, and some clubs opt to have the stuent pay a small portion of the tuition themselves (to reduce late cancellations). The sponsoring club is also responsible for the student's transportation, as well as collecting any required paperwork before specific due dates. In return, you should ask your sponsored participant to present a club program, as well as perhaps initiate the chartering of an Interact Club at your local high school.

Below please find an informational letter for the nominated student and his or her parent/guardians, an informational flyer for the applicant to keep for reference and an academy application.
We look forward to working with your club. If you would like additional information, please feel free to contact me with ideas or suggestions. |
