 Matching Grant #72484
Water Well for Medical Dispensary

This is part one of a multi-part project to enhance a medical dispensary near the village of Miguta, Central Province, Kenya. Once a good supply of water is established, there are plans to expand the size of the dispensary in hopes of increased staffing by the government.

This is a joint project between the Rotary Club of Nairobi Industrial Area, Kenya and the Rotary Club of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, with additional funding coming from Rotary District 9200-Kenya, District 6200-Louisiana, the Philip and Kathleen Silvers Donor Advised Fund and the Clean Water for Coffee Producing Countries Donor Advised Fund under the supervision of the Humanitarian Grant department of The Rotary Foundation.
This is a nearly US $26,000 project.

Water was found in abundant supply at 170 m. Testing is going on currently.

By mid-June 2010, the tower was erected and the pumphouse was built.

The pumphouse was built. It has a small office inside for a local employee to work in maintenance of the equipment and the sale of water, which generates the funds for maintenance and continuing operation.
