Matching Grant #71670 Water Well Project Saint John of God Hospital Tanguieta, Benin
The Saint John of God Hospital in Tanguieta, Benin is a dynamic hospital serving the rural populations of the north of Benin, northern Togo, Burkina Faso, Niger and northern Nigeria. It is run by an Italian religious order, the Fabenefratelli, who provide high quality medical procedures for little to no cost to people in need. The hospital was founded in 1970 and serves nearly 25,000 patients each year.
The town of Tanguieta has a population around 22,000, many of whom draw their water from the well at the hospital. The current water supply is at capacity and is in danger of running out of water, jeapardizing medical procedures and the families of patients who are receiving treatment.
This project will install an additional deep borehole water well at the hospital and provide a pump, to insure the hospital does not run out of water.
