Matching Grant #54720 Cataract Surgery Project Hayatabad, Pakistan District 3270 |
| This project was developed between the Rotary Club of Hayatabad Peshawar in Pakistan, D3270 and D6060 in Eastern Missouri, partnering with D6710, Western Kentucky, and D6460, Western Illinois. The Rotary Club of St. Louis County graciously consented to be our International Sponsor Club. |
Surgeries began in Spring 2005. The project was aimed at helping the Afghan refugees living along the border. |
Four year old Zahid had a mature cataract and his parents were very worried. Living in the refugee camp, his parents could not afford the fee that private doctors charge. They are very happy that Rotary was able to remove Zahid's cataract and give him good vision again.

The surgeries will be done at a local eye hospital, the Khano Eye Trust Hospital. |
The heat, poor living conditions, and diet probably all play a role in the incidence of cataracts in the very young, as well as the older people.
