Matching Grant #50569 Water Well Project distributed around District 3160, India |
At first glance, it might seem odd that a water well project would be considered a Poverty Alleviation project. But in many regions of the world, one person from each family must spend their entire day walking to get a jug of water for their families daily use.
Sadly, this water often comes from a pond where animals are drinking and also contaminating the water, leading to many cases of cholera, dysentery, and other diseases, and often higher rates of death among the children and infants. |

This project will fund the drilling of 42 tube wells and the hand pump necessary to obtain the water from these wells.
Each well will supply the needs of approximately 100 families, roughly 500 people.
So, this project will be impacting about 4200 families, as many as 20,000 people. |
| Having a water well nearby will allow the water gatherer of the family to enter the workforce. The families may be subsisting on an income of US $1.00 a day from one wage earner. This project will allow one more family member to work, raising the family income and improving their condition. |
