Cataract Surgery Project
Rotary Club of Pune Riverside, India D3130 |

This project was developed between the Rotary Club of Pune Riverside in Pune, India in D3130. International sponsors were D6060 in Eastern Missouri, D6040 in Northwestern Missouri, and D6510 in Southern Illinois.
1,000 surgeries were performed at the Pune Blind Mens Association's H.V.Desai Eye Surgery Hospital.
There were some delays that kept the Pune Riverside club from receiving the Foundation funds until June 2003, but surgeries began immediately and were completed in the last week of July 2003.

Dancers from Punjab, in their native costume, entertained the visitors to the Rotary Fair.
The Pune Riverside club held a "Children's Day Out" to raise the money for their portion of this matching grant. This included a fun fair with some rides and various game booths, cultural show, magic show, a discotheque, with food, drink and dessert all included for US $ 3.00 apiece.
Nearly 1,000 attended. Lucky tickets were drawn and prizes given away, including a trip to Dubai, a refrigerator, a music system, and a 3-night, 2-day stay at a resort. |
The Pune Riverside Rotary Club has 46 members, several of whom were helping make this day a success.

The surgeries all took place in July 2003. A few of the recipients are pictured above and in the pictures to follow.
We thank Rotarians in District 6040 and 6510 for partnering with D6060 and the RC of Pune Riverside in helping these 1,000 people regain their eye sight.
