Kaviyere, Malawi Water Project

Sparta, Illinois Rotarian Robert Holloway has been traveling to Malawi annually for more than a decade. He has helped improve hospitals and schools. He told us of the need for a deep water well about 5 miles from Embangweni.

The well site is centrally located to supply water for two schools with an enrollment of over 1,000 children, 5 surrounding villages of 3,000 people and a church of over 3,000 members.

Currently, the children at the school and the church have no water even to wash their hands when they are using the pit toilets. Unfortunately, many depend on the water from the Kaviyere stream which is polluted. The statistics of 60% of the children dying before the age of 5 is correct.
